Garmin 1350 Reviews

Garmin has been busy making GPS models for advanced users because the existence of the 200 series was just enough for new people to dive into the world of GPS devices, but the new announcements of the Garmin nuvi 1350 and other devices in the 1200 and 1300 series, Garmin has more things up their sleeve and it is surprisingly not for the advanced users at all. Instead, it gives people an alternative option to the affordable 200 series using the design as their main attraction.

Design

Regarding the way the screen is designed, nothing really seems to be new if you compare it to the other widescreen GPS automotive models like the highly successful 255W. But the real difference is revealed just by looking at their thickness with the 1350 far thinner and lighter than the older model. This spells improved portability for any heavy traveler or driver.

Features

Although this particular device slimmed down, absolutely no features were sacrificed and in fact some welcome additions were introduced. Turning on the device takes users directly to the main menu without any setting up with two big icons shown on the 4.3” display. Planning a route is the general choice amongst drivers that want to get to a destination quickly and like the 255W, gets the job done quickly guiding the user each turn by voice and announcing the street names within range.

Route planning gets even better with the ecoRoute feature that cleverly calculates a route in such a way that maximum fuel is saved. It even helps track fuel usage and combined with the millions of points of interest, helps point out the location of gas stations when needed. Whether it is using the 2-D or 3-D maps, planning a route is easy in general.

With the “Lane Assist” feature, turns can never be missed again even if the intersection or highway isn’t very familiar. The Garmin nuvi 1350 will let drivers know what lane the driver should be in according to the planned route.

Although the Garmin nuvi 1350 internally bears many similarities with the 255W, a few new features include a slightly enhanced interface allowing users to slide a finger to scroll between screen and an entirely new addition to the cityXplorer feature. With the “Enhanced Pedestrian Navigation” feature, it is possible to see the locations of bus stops, subways, or other forms of public transportation while on foot. It gives accurate information on bus schedules as well as an estimated time of arrival adding flexibility to planning in unfamiliar locations.

Going beyond navigation, the 1350 also includes some nifty extras including a JPEG viewer, world travel clock, several converters, and a calculator. The “Where am I”? emergency locator is included as well along with an anti-theft feature.

Bottom Line

The 1350 is a worthy upgrade if portability is a desired feature. The extra enhancements also make it worth the price and the older 200 series models will remain on the market so that entry-level GPS users have an automotive device that is best for them.
